From the AASCIF President

July 1, 2010

I am delighted to be serving as your new AASCIF President. I am proud to be associated with such a dynamic organization and this is a wonderful opportunity for me and my staff at Montana State Fund to further contribute to the success of our association. Over the years, AASCIF has been a vehicle for sharing new ideas, cutting-edge technology, and customer focused strategies that sets state funds apart from our competitors. The diversity and forward thinking of our membership has made AASCIF an essential voice on issues affecting our industry. It is because of the human and financial investment of our members and strategic partners that makes our organization thrive.

My transition into this new role would not have gone so smoothly without the efforts of my predecessor, Dennis Smith, former CEO, and the able staff of Missouri Employers Mutual. I thank Dennis for his commitment and dedication to AASCIF over the years and for his leadership.

Another wonderful aspect of AASCIF is the connection between the United States and Canada. Although the Canadian system may differ in a number of ways from those in the States, we are all working toward a common goal. That is to offer our employers a quality workers' compensation product and keep our hard working men and women in our Provinces and States safe on the job. During my tenure I hop to strengthen our ties over the border and work together for this common purpose, and to explore avenues where are organization can create more value to its members. I plan to do this by encouraging the sharing of our valuable resources and experiences with one another and actively supporting the work of our standing committees.

I would like to conclude my first letter with a quote from Harold S. Geneen, former CEO of International Telephone and Telegraph. These words reflect the tone that I would like to set during my Presidency of AASCIF.

Leadership is practiced not so much in words as in attitude and in actions.

Again, I welcome this opportunity and look forward to hearing from you. If you have any questions, or suggestions, please feel free to email lhubbard@montanastatefund.com or call me at 406.495.5015.

Thank you again for your support.
