From the AASCIF President
2007 was a busy year for AASCIF, and I’d like to thank you for the continued support of your respective organizations. As you’re aware, the extension of the Terrorism Risk Insurance Act (TRIA) was recently signed into law and will extend out for seven years. I’d like to thank Russ Oliver (president of the Texas Mutual Insurance Company) and Dennis Smith (president and CEO of the Missouri Employers Mutual Insurance Company) for keeping AASCIF members informed on this issue by monitoring the debate in Washington, and educating legislators about how important the TRIA extension is for workers’ comp carriers.
On the leadership front, congratulations and welcome to new CEOs Janet Frank (California), Tom Phelan (Maryland), Bob Lund (Minnesota), and Marsha Ryan (Ohio). I look forward to working with all of you in 2008.
The AASCIF CEO meeting was held November 7-8 in Las Vegas. It was another excellent session with great participation, during which we shared ideas and reviewed workers’ comp industry trends. In mid-November, we also announced the AASCIF committee appointments for 2008. Thanks to all of you who have volunteered for service. We’ll see you at the All-Committee Meeting on January 17 in Las Vegas, during which each committee will develop goals, plan newsletter article topics, and schedule committee workshops for 2008.
For a great conference in an amazing setting, don’t miss out on this year’s Annual Conference, “Where Ideas Take Flight,” August 17-20 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Go to the conference Web site for more information and to register. I look forward to seeing many of you there.

I look forward to another prosperous year for AASCIF, and to working with the standing committees, executive committee, and the entire membership on various association initiatives throughout 2008.
