From the AASCIF President
Spring has finally arrived, a busy time of year for all AASCIF members that
are knee-deep in 2008 initiatives. We kicked off the year with a very productive
All-Committee Meeting on January 17 in Las Vegas. The committees are a great
combination of new and existing members, who have been busy planning their
workshops and writing newsletter articles on relevant issues in the workers’ comp
market. As many workshops have already been scheduled, you can check
out the full list online. I’d like to thank all the committee chairs and members
for your commitment this year.
Late this summer, Utah Workers Compensation Fund will host our 2008 Annual
Conference, “Where Ideas Take Flight,” from August 17-20 in Midway,
Utah, which is about 45 minutes from Salt Lake City. This promises to be an
excellent conference, and I encourage you to attend if you can. One highlight
is Wednesday’s CEO Roundtable, which will be moderated by Robert Hartwig,
an industry leader and president of the Insurance Information Institute. The
agenda and full list of activities are available on the conference
Web site.
Also, please mark your calendar for the following events:
- AASCIF CEO Meeting at the Wynn Las Vegas, November 5-6, 2008
- All-Committee
Meeting at the Mirage in Las Vegas, January 28-29, 2009
In other news, we continue to monitor congressional discussions in Washington
about federal oversight of the insurance industry, which could potentially
impact the entire insurance industry. We’ll keep you posted on any developments
regarding that issue.
Thanks for all your efforts to date, and I hope your spring is both beautiful
and successful.
