From the AASCIF President

Russ Oliver - AASCIF President

In my last message, I discussed the wonderful annual conference we experienced in Branson, MO. Thanks again to Dennis Smith, Kim Ancell and all the Missouri staff for doing such a wonderful job hosting the conference.

One of the many worthwhile events at the conference was the presentation of the AASCIF Communications Awards. These awards cover thirteen categories and are based on judging by an independent firm. Many fine entries were submitted by our members, and awards were made for first, second and third place in each category. Finally, the independent judges awarded “Best of Show” honors to the Workers’ Compensation Board of Nova Scotia for their Young Workers’ Safety Campaign.

An added feature was the “People’s Choice” award, which went to BrickStreet Mutual Insurance Company, West Virginia, for their excellent television ads highlighting their coverage for the coal and construction industries and for small businesses. BrickStreet won the “People’s Choice” award through a vote of those attending the annual conference. I hope you chief executives are planning to attend our annual CEO meeting on November 1st and 2nd in Las Vegas. We will have a lot to discuss, including market conditions and trends, as well as some AASCIF association business.

Finally, it is the season for nominations for our 2007 AASCIF committees. The AASCIF standing committees are Audit and Statistics, Claims/Rehabilitation, Communications, Finance and Investments, Human Resources, Information Technology, Law, National Issues, Policyholder Services and Safety and Health. The excellent research and information sharing that the AASCIF committees facilitate within our community help us all do a better job of addressing common issues and serving our customers. You need only look at each issue of AASCIF News to see some of this work, as the committees are prime contributors of the articles we publish. The committees also promote good thought and information dissemination through various committee workshops that are held each year. Some of those workshops are occurring as you receive this message. We have asked all CEOs to submit their nominations to us in early October, so if you are interested in serving on a committee next year, please let your CEO know as soon as possible.

With the CEO meeting in November, we will be winding down another successful year for AASCIF. Thanks to all of you for your continued support of our association.
